COWBOY ALIBI

Deleted Scene

I'm not sure why, but I have almost no deleted scenes saved from this book.  It was a fast write, and I think I mostly edited on the page rather than cutting whole chunks of story from the book.  Anyway, here are the two short blurbs that I deleted from the book.

"Did you love me?"

He gazed at her for a long moment, his eyes dark with pain.  He took a couple of slow, deep breaths before he turned his head toward the window, gazing at the busy street beyond the motel window.  "Yes," he murmured, so softly that it was barely audible over the traffic noise outside.

She closed the distance between them, sliding her hand up his arm.  "I think I loved you, too."

She let go of his arm. "Maybe I will."

"Maybe."

"I'm remembering some things."

He turned to look at her, surprised. "You are?"

She nodded. "It's . . .jumbled up. Not linear. I remember snippets of things that don't make sense. There's no context, just images. I can't put them together."

"Tell me what you remembered."

She shook her head. "It's nothing that makes sense."

He wanted to press her for more information, but the rigid set of her jaw convinced him to back off. He had some idea what she was probably feeling; when he'd been a kid, a horse had bucked him off and he'd hit his head in the fall. When he'd come to, his memories were jumbled and disconnected. It had been terrifying for the few minutes it had taken for everything to finally click into place.

It must be that much worse for Jane, who'd been lost in a complete void for months now, to suddenly have pieces of her memory coming back out of context.

She'd tell him about them when she was ready.

He hoped.
